Colonials Split Series at Syracuse

Hatch records seventh career 40+ save performance

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse's late shorthanded goal delivered their first victory over RMU this season, winning 2-1. RMU is now 10-16-0 overall and 7-7-0 in CHA contests. Syracuse is now 6-20-2 overall and 3-10-1 in conference play.
 
1ST PERIOD
  • Six minutes into the game, Syracuse's Sarah Thompson scored on the team's first power-play opportunity of the match.
  • The Colonials killed off a penalty shortly after the Orange scored the first goal. RMU went 0-1 on their power-play chances in the first period.
  • Goaltender Maggie Hatch recorded 17 saves in the opening 20 minutes.
 
2ND PERIOD
  • With four minutes remaining in the second period, the Colonials caused a turnover along the boards in the neutral zone. Freshman Alyssa Rasmuson handed the puck off to Allyson Hebert, rushing into the offensive zone. Dishing a puck in front of the net, sophomore Calli Arnold tipped in the puck to tie up the game.
 
3RD PERIOD
  • Halfway through the final period, the Colonials received a power-play. Sarah Thompson of Syracuse scored her second goal of the game, leading the Orange to a 2-1 victory.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Junior forward Madison Primeau registered a team-high four shots on goal. Statistically, Calli Arnold, Allyson Hebert, Alyssa Rasmuson and Laura Eustace all finished a +1. Arnold and Rasmuson each have produced two points against the Orange this season. Freshman Catriona Crarer led RMU skaters in faceoff wins with seven on the day. Defensively, Captain Wasyn Rice blocked four shots, leading all skaters on the ice in that category. The Colonials blocked 19 shots compared to Syracuse's 11. For the second straight game, goaltender Maggie Hatch stopped over 40 shots. She's achieved seven, 40+ save performances in the 2023-24 campaign.
 
UP NEXT
RMU will continue to play on the road, heading out to RIT next weekend. The two-game series is scheduled for February 2-3.
