RMU Women's Basketball Drops Home Contest Against Milwaukee

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's basketball team were defeated at home as the Colonials lost 61-43 on Wednesday night. RMU drops to 6-16 overall and 2-11 in the Horizon League while Milwaukee improves to 13-10 overall and 7-5 in conference play.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
RMU got out to a fast start not just on the offensive end but the defensive end as well as the Colonials began the game on a 6-2 run. The Colonials defense forced four missed shots and three turnovers in the first four minutes of the game which helped guide them to the early lead at home.

Colonial freshman Madison O'Dell went on a hot streak to end the first half of play as she scored nine straight points for RMU all of which being three-pointers. The freshman notched a career-high with three shots made from beyond the arc.

CONVERTING ON TURNOVERS
RMU was able to cash in on the mistakes made by Milwaukee with the Colonials scoring 19 points off of the Panthers turnovers. Rebeccah Dwomoh led RMU with three steals as the home team had 11 steals total compared to Milwaukee who only had three. The Colonials won the turnover battle as Milwaukee guard Kamy Peppler had 10 turnovers alone which helped RMU get points on the board.

QUOTABLES
"We're working on you know playing with a pace where you don't have to go 100 miles per hour every play and have the ability to change speeds especially against a team that's physical like them. It was good to see us not turn it over and again, take another step in the right direction in that area.", Coach Buscaglia on how RMU took care of the ball. "We've got to get some good stuff in and we're going to watch some video and we're going to get on the court and work our pace and definitely work on our defense. Like I said, I see some real positive moments so I'm hoping that by the time we get back on February 8th you know we're going to make even bigger strides from doing it and more practice," – Buscaglia's closing comments about how the upcoming break could help the team.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Naomi Barnwell led the Colonials with 15 points along with eight rebounds as she also was a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe against Milwaukee. Madison O'Dell scored all nine of her points on three-point baskets in 21 minutes played off the bench.

UP NEXT
The Colonials will have over a week off before they return to Horizon League action when they travel to play Detroit Mercy on Thursday, February 8. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
