Colonials Fall in Five Sets Against IU Indy

INDIANAPOLIS, In. – The Colonials fell in five sets against IU Indy on Friday evening in Horizon League action.
 
With the loss, the Colonials fall to 7-10, 2-4 HL while the Jaguars improve to 7-12, 1-5 HL.
 
KEY SET MOMENTS
  • The Colonials offense didn't get off to the start they wanted in the first set as they trailed 16-10 midway through the set. However, RMU would go on a 7-2 run to trim the IU lead to just one at 18-17. The Jaguars would then continue getting kills to end the set as they finished the stanza with 16 compared to the Colonials who had eight.
  • RMU was poised to strike back offensively as they jumped out to a 9-5 lead, thanks in large part to four Colonial kills. The Colonials set themselves up in a good position to take the set up 23-21, until IU went on a 5-1 run to storm back and win the set.
  • IU Indy started strong in the third set and took an early 9-3 lead; however, the Colonials offense exploded and got the visiting squad back in the set. RMU had 17 kills in the set along with no attack errors for a match-high .447 hit percentage. The Colonials saw themselves down 21-15 until a late 10-2 run vaulted RMU to a pivotal set win.
  • The Jaguars tried to halt RMU's momentum in the fourth set by jumping out to a 15-10 but it proved to not last. The Colonials would push back and go on a 9-1 run to make the score 21-18 in favor of RMU. IU committed six attack errors in that run and had a match-high 12 errors in the set.
  • RMU pushed the match to a fifth set where the Jaguars took over on the offensive side. IU opened up a 9-4 lead and it would prove to be too much for RMU to overcome as the Jaguars finished the set with 10 kills compared to the Colonials with six.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Natalie Stepanovich led all players with 19 kills while also tallying 17 digs on the night. Azra Eric was stout on the net all evening with a team-high four blocks with Tatum Otolski and Hillarie Adams each having three. Ally Christman led the Colonials with four aces while also chipping in eight digs.
