Colonials Can't Find Offensive Groove at #3 Clarkson

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The RMU women's hockey team was shut out for the second straight game by No. 3 Clarkson, falling 3-0 in the series finale on Saturday. The loss drops the Colonials to 3-3-0 on the season.
 
FIRST PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
  • Much like the series opener, the first period ended in a scoreless tie. Clarkson carried the shot count, outshooting RMU 14-3.
 
SECOND PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
  • With just over a minute remaining in the second period, Clarkson broke the deadlock. After a lengthy review, Sena Catterall was credited with the goal, giving the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead.
  • RMU successfully killed off one power-play in the middle frame as Clarkson finished 0-1 with the man advantage.
 
THIRD PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
  • Clarkson doubled their lead halfway through the third period, capitalizing on their second power-play opportunity of the game.
  • The Colonials pushed for a goal late, pulling goaltender Lucy Phillips with a few minutes left on the clock, but Clarkson sealed the game with an empty-netter to extend the lead to 3-0.
  • RMU earned a power-play in the final 88 seconds of the game but was unable to convert before the final whistle.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Clarkson tallied 40 shots on goal, while RMU managed 11. Defensively, RMU blocked 18 shots, with captain Allyson Hebert leading the way with five. Freshman Mya Kearns had a career-high four blocks. Forward Veronica Bac won seven faceoffs, and senior Madison Primeau was perfect, winning all three faceoffs she took. In net, goaltender Lucy Phillips made her second career start, posting a career-high 37 saves and finishing with a .949 save percentage.
 
COLONIAL FIRST
Freshman TJ Flores made her collegiate debut in today's game. The Milton, Ontario native comes from the Burlington Barracudas (OWHL), where she tallied 77 points over 86 games.
 
UP NEXT
RMU will return home to Clearview Arena next week for a two-game series against Princeton. The Colonials will face the Tigers on Friday, October 18 at 7:00 PM, and again on Saturday, October 19 at 3:00 PM.
