Colonials Fall to Cleveland State in Five Sets

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Colonials fell in five sets against Cleveland State on Friday evening in Horizon League action.
 
With the loss, the Colonials fall to 8-13, 3-7 HL while the Vikings improve to 15-6, 6-4 HL.
 
KEY SET MOMENTS
  • The Vikings were the ones who got things started on offense as they had a match-high 17 kills in the first set. The Colonials battled throughout the set and tied the set at 16 thanks to consecutive kills by Jocelyn Jourdan and Hillarie Adams, however the Vikings would go on a 9-2 run to win the set.
  • RMU came back in the second stanza ready to battle as they started out down 9-8 but went on a crucial 5-0 run that turned the set around. The Vikings didn't help themselves with a match-high 10 attack errors that helped RMU take the second stanza.
  • The Colonials continued to apply pressure as there was only one instance in the set where RMU didn't have the lead. RMU was dynamite from the service line in the stanza as they registered four out of their seven aces in the third set. RMU also had a match-high .269 hit percentage to help them close out the third stanza.
  • The fourth set was a back and forth battle up until the score was dead locked at 13. Cleveland State would then go on to score 12 out of the next 16 points to take the set. The Vikings offense would be the difference with a match-high .304 hit percentage.
  • Going into the final set, both teams exchanged points simultaneously until things shifted when Cleveland State took a 5-4 lead. The Vikings would score four straight points and 10 out of the next 14 to take the match.
MAKING HISTORY
Ashleigh Wallin finished tonight's match with a team-high 20 assists but it was her seventh of the match that put her on a special list. In the second set, Wallin recorded her 2,000th career assist as she is just the ninth Colonial to record atleast 2,000 assists.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Hillarie Adams led the Colonials with 13 kills with Jocelyn Jourdan right behind her finishing the match with 10 kills. Ally Christman, Kaitlyn Brown, and Ashleigh Wallin each had two aces to lead RMU. Jasmine Purakal had a team-high 25 digs while also chipping in three assists.

The Colonials will come back tomorrow to close out the series with Cleveland State. The match will start at 5 p.m. and can be seen streaming live on ESPN+.
