RMU Game Notes (10/26)

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's soccer team faces a critical conference match against Oakland this Saturday, October 26, at 1:00 PM, with live coverage on ESPN+.

RMU LATELY
RMU (7-4-2, 4-1-1 #HLMSOC) is fresh off a decisive 5-0 victory over Green Bay at the North Athletic Complex. Just two minutes in, Kai McLoughlin opened the scoring with his first goal of the season, assisted by Anass Hadran. Later in the first half, John Paul Mbuthia headed in a cross from Tim Koczulap. Hadran added a goal in the second half, with assists from Koczulap and Chase Gilley, while Mbuthia scored again in the 68th minute, assisted by Gilley and William Dodzi Afawubo. Kosi Udeh closed out the match with an 87th-minute goal, assisted by Mats Bramer. Goalkeeper Josh Lane recorded four saves to secure his fourth clean sheet of the season. John Paul Mbuthia was tabbed the #HLMSOC Offensive Player of the Week, after his two-game performance.

NATIONAL ATTENTION
Maintaining their position atop the Horizon League standings, RMU men's soccer was ranked 9th in the North Region by the United Soccer Coaches poll earlier this week.

Graduate forward Chase Gilley ranks third in the Horizon League for points (6g, 3a, 15p), third in goals, and first in game-winning goals (3). The Denver, N.C. native has played 68 career games, starting 41, and has recorded 18 goals, 10 assists, and 46 career points.

ALL-TIME VS. OAKLAND
RMU is in search of its first-ever victory over Oakland. In last year's match, Oakland edged RMU 1-0. The teams met again in the 2022 Horizon League semifinals, where RMU was narrowly defeated 6-5 in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw, with Chase Gilley scoring early in the game.

SCOUTING OAKLAND
Oakland (5-6-2, 3-1-2 #HLMSOC) is coming off two consecutive conference wins, defeating Wright State 2-1 and Purdue Fort Wayne 1-0. The Golden Grizzlies sit second in the Horizon League standings, just two points behind RMU. Junior forward Jack Klomparens leads the team in points (3g, 2a), while sophomore forward Andrew Darakdjian has a team-high four assists. In goal, graduate goalkeeper Alex Flowers has played 11 games, earning four wins, three clean sheets, and 41 saves.
