NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The RMU men's hockey team skated to a 4-4 tie but secured an extra point in the standings as
Walter Zacher scored in the shootout, lifting the Colonials to 2-1-1 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play.
FIRST PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
- After a scoreless opening 11 minutes, Niagara netted the game's first goal in their home opener, following up three minutes later to extend their lead to 2-0.
- RMU cut the deficit with two minutes left in the period, as Mitch Deelstra buried a pass from Michael Craig for his second goal of the series.
- Niagara successfully killed RMU's only power-play opportunity in the period.
SECOND PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
- Seven minutes into the second period, Niagara's Noah Carlin restored the two-goal lead.
- RMU's captain Cameron Garvey answered quickly, capitalizing on a turnover in the neutral zone to score his first of the season.
- Niagara reclaimed momentum just a minute later, scoring again to lead 4-2 going into the third.
- The Colonials successfully killed off all three Niagara power-play opportunities during the middle frame.
THIRD PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
- RMU narrowed the gap just 26 seconds into the final period, with Michael Craig scoring through traffic, assisted by Gabriel Lunn and Walter Zacher.
- Craig struck again late in the period to tie the game with under five minutes remaining, marking his first career two-goal game.
OVERTIME
- The 3-on-3 overtime period ended scoreless, with Niagara registering three shots to RMU's two.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
RMU outshot Niagara 37-34, while Niagara held a faceoff edge, winning 49 of 78. Freshman
Trent Wilson led the Colonials with 11 faceoff wins. RMU went 0-for-1 on the power play but held Niagara scoreless on three opportunities. Craig and Klimpke led RMU with a +3 rating, and the team combined for 12 blocked shots. Kochendorfer made 30 saves, including a game-saving dive in overtime to force the shootout.

Michael Craig recorded his first two-goal game, boosting his season total to three goals and three assists through four games, with a team-leading +7 rating. In 43 career games, he's produced three goals, 12 assists and 15 points.
