MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Goaltender
Croix Kochendorfer recorded his first career shutout with 37 saves, leading the Colonials to a 3-0 victory over Lindenwood. The win improves RMU's record to 3-1-1 on the season.
FIRST PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
- The teams went scoreless in the opening period, with Lindenwood outshooting RMU 11-7.
- Both teams were unsuccessful on their initial power-play opportunities.
SECOND PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
- Late in the second, Trent Wilson broke the deadlock with his third goal of the season, assisted by Dominic Elliot and McKay Hayes.
- Both sides again went 0-for-1 on the power play.
THIRD PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
- Early in the final period, McKay Hayes extended RMU's lead, netting his first goal of the season with assists from Cody Monds and Elliot.
- RMU's penalty kill proved effective, successfully shutting down three Lindenwood power plays and blocking four shots during one shorthanded sequence.
- With Lindenwood's goalie pulled, Patrick Johnson scored an empty-net goal—his first career tally—assisted by Gavin Gulash and Luke van Why to seal the 3-0 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Lindenwood outshot RMU 37-23. The Colonials won 31 of 63 faceoffs, with
Cameron Garvey leading the team by winning 14 draws, while Wilson had the best win percentage, going 9-for-13. Defensively, Garvey blocked a team-high five shots, and Wilson posted a +3 rating, being on the ice for all three RMU goals.
MULTIPOINT EFFORTS
- Sophomore forward McKay Hayes recorded his first goal and assist of the season, marking his third career multipoint game. The Ancaster, Ontario native now has seven goals, 10 assists, and 17 points in 43 games.
- Freshman defenseman Dominic Elliot notched his first career points with two assists, also marking his first multipoint game. Hailing from Allendale, Mich., Elliot currently ranks second on the team in blocked shots with eight.
COLONIAL FIRSTS
- Freshman Patrick Johnson, from Chesterfield, Mo., scored his first career goal with an empty-netter.
- Goalie Croix Kochendorfer, from St. Paul, Minn., earned his first shutout, stopping all 37 shots. Through five starts, he holds a 2.17 GAA and .925 save percentage, with three wins.
