MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's hockey team begins conference play this weekend with a series against RIT in Rochester, N.Y. The opener is set for Friday, November 1, at 6:00 PM, with the series finale on Saturday, November 2, at 3:00 PM. Both games will stream live on FloHockey.
RMU LATELY
The Colonials (5-5-0, 0-0-0 #AHA) enter the series on a high, following back-to-back wins over Saint Anselm with decisive 6-1 and 7-1 scores.
Morgan Giannone led the offense with a career-high four-point game, finishing with seven points on the weekend and earning AHA Forward of the Week honors.
Mya Neugent celebrated her 100th career game with one goal and three points, while
Calli Arnold notched her first career two-goal performance.
Catriona Crarer, returning to the lineup, contributed her first goal and assist.
Maggie Hatch reached 1,000 career saves in net in the series opener, while
Lucy Phillips earned her first career win during game two.
AROUND THE AHA
Graduate forward
Veronica Bac is tied for the league lead in goals with five, and Giannone's weekend moved her to third in AHA points with 10. On defense, the Colonials are blocking shots at a high rate, led by
Allyson Hebert (34),
Kaitlyn Schooley (26), and
Shayne Desjardins (26), who all rank at the top of the conference.
ALL-TIME VS. RIT
Since 2007, RMU holds a 30-13-3 all-time record against RIT, including a dominant 12-game winning streak from 2016 to 2019. The Colonials have scored 148 total goals in the series (3.22 goals per game) and recorded eight shutouts. Last season, the teams split their series 2-2, with
Alaina Giampietro scoring four goals across the games and
Jersey Phillips adding two goals and an assist.
SCOUTING RIT
The Tigers (5-3-2, 0-0-0 #AHA) also open conference play this weekend. In recent action against #6 St. Lawrence, RIT fell 4-1 and then tied 2-2 before losing in a shootout. Senior forward Kylie Aquaro leads RIT with eight points (4g, 4a), while senior defenseman Kyla Bear has a team-high six assists. Emma Pickering leads the Tigers in blocked shots with 23. In goal, senior Sarah Coe has been the most consistent netminder, posting four of RIT's five wins.
UP NEXT
Following the RIT series, RMU will take a two-week break before hosting Mercyhurst for a two-game home series on November 15-16 at Clearview Arena.
