MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's hockey team secured a 2-1 shootout victory after a 2-2 tie against Lindenwood, capturing three of four possible points in the series. With goals from
Walter Zacher and
McKay Hayes in the shootout, the Colonials are now 3-1-2 to start the 2024-25 season.
FIRST PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
- Lindenwood's Brody Mortensen scored late in the first, making it 1-0.
- Lindenwood outshot RMU 16-4 over the first 20 minutes.
SECOND PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
- Early in the period, Jack Anderson extended Lindenwood's lead on the power-play.
- Patrick Johnson responded quickly for RMU with a wrister, assisted by Dominic Elliot, bringing RMU within one.
THIRD PERIOD HIGHLIGHTS
- Both teams played tight defensively, with Lindenwood outshooting RMU 8-5 in the final frame.
- RMU received a five-minute power-play halfway through, with Luke van Why scoring the equalizer off assists from Trent Wilson and McKay Hayes, sending the game into overtime.
OVERTIME
- RMU held the advantage in the 3-on-3 overtime, outshooting Lindenwood 4-2, but the game remained tied.
SHOOTOUT
- Lindenwood scored once in the shootout, but RMU's Zacher and Hayes converted their attempts to secure the shootout win.
