Colonials Fall at Home Against Saint Francis

Grady scores season-high 15 points

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's basketball team fell at home against in-state foe Saint Francis, 58-55. The Colonials are now 2-2 through the first four non-conference games of the season.
 
FIRST QUARTER
  • The Colonials jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead to begin the game as the RMU defense forced four turnovers in the first three minutes of action
  • The Red Flash responded in a big way behind the arc, specifically Airah Lavy who scored nine of her 15 points in the first frame.
  • RMU was able to hold off the Saint Francis offensive attack and take a 16-13 lead heading to the second quarter. 
SECOND QUARTER
  • RMU opened the frame scoring the first five points thanks to a three-pointer from Jada Lee and a made jumper by Raissa Nsabua.
  • However, the Red Flash would go on a 9-2 run to tie the game at 23 with two minutes to go in the half.
  • Both teams would go back and forth exchanging points until the final seconds when Isys Grady drilled a buzzer-beating three-pointer to give RMU a one-point lead going to the break.
 
THIRD QUARTER
  • The Colonials came out of the break ready to shoot the rock as they notched a game-high 18 points in this frame.
  • RMU opened the quarter with a layup from Lee then quickly followed up with a three-pointer from Nsabua to give the Colonials a two-point advantage.
  • The Red Flash got into serious foul trouble as they hit the bonus with just over five minutes remaining in the frame as the Colonials took advantage and made the next four free throws afterwards. RMU would end the quarter with a 46-41 advantage over the visiting Red Flash.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • Both teams came into the frame ready to take the lead as there was a game-high five lead changes in this quarter.
  • Noa Givon made a big three-pointer with 2:43 remaining to help RMU retake the lead and make the score 53-51. There would be two more lead changes until the score was tied at 55 with 51 seconds remaining.
  • It was Saint Francis possession with time winding down when Lavy nailed a triple with 27 seconds left to give the Red Flash a three-point lead late in the game.
  • The Colonials had one more chance to force the game into overtime as Nsabua put up a three-pointer that was off the mark but Danielle Vuletich came down with the rebound and kicked it out to Givon as she put up a three-pointer at the buzzer that just missed. The Red Flash would come away with a 58-55 road win.
     
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Isys Grady led the Colonials with a season-high 15 points and six field goals made. Noa Givon also reached double digits as she finished with 12 points along with three rebounds. Raissa Nsabua led RMU with five rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes played. The Red Flash were guided by Julianna Gibson who led all scorers with 19 points as she was a perfect 9-9 from the free-throw line.
 
UP NEXT
The Colonials will hit the road for a quick road trip when they travel to face Pitt on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and can be seen on the ACC Network.
