Colonials Drop Non-Conference Matchup at Pitt

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – RMU women's basketball dropped a road non-conference contest against Pitt on Saturday, 64-51. The Colonials have lost two straight games and now have a 2-3 record this season.
 
FIRST QUARTER
  • The Colonials came ready to score against the Panthers as RMU jumped out to an early 11-6 lead as Noa Givon scored five of those points.
  • The Colonial defense was ready to stymie Pitt with RMU forcing six turnovers and had a game-high four steals in the frame.
  • RMU went toe to toe with their ACC opponent as the score was tied at 12 until Pitt took a two-point lead with eight seconds remaining. This would be the last time that Pitt would lose the lead.
SECOND QUARTER
  • Pitt was looking to turn the tide in the second frame as the home team scored eight out of the first 10 points in the quarter.
  • The Panthers won the turnover battle in the frame as they forced RMU into tough situations with Pitt scoring eight points off of Colonial turnovers.
  • The Colonials would score a game-low eight points in this frame as this was the only quarter in which RMU didn't make a three-pointer. Pitt went into the break with a 27-20 advantage over RMU.
 
THIRD QUARTER
  • The Colonials were ready to light it up from beyond the arc out of the half as RMU made two straight triples to start the quarter and cut the Panther lead to just one point.
  • However, RMU had to deal with Pitt center Khadija Faye who scored a team-high nine points in this frame along with eight rebounds as she made sure Pitt sustained their lead.
  • Pitt would go on to score nine out of the last 13 points in the quarter to push their lead to 11 going to the final frame.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • Once again, RMU opened this quarter from beyond the arc as Isys Grady nailed a three as she had a team-high two triples for the Colonials.
  • This ended up being the highest scoring quarter of the game as both teams combined for 36 points with Pitt finishing the frame with 19 and RMU with 17.
  • RMU wasn't able to complete the comeback as they fell short against their crosstown rivals, 64-51.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Jada Lee had her highest scoring game as a Colonial as she finished with 12 points and was very efficient at the charity stripe, closing the game going 5-6 from the line. Noa Givon also reached double digits for RMU as she finished with 10 points while also hauling in six boards. Mya Murray had a near double-double as she closed the game with eight points and seven rebounds off the bench.
 
UP NEXT
RMU won't have much time to rest as they'll go on the road for another short trip, this time to face crosstown foe Duquesne on Monday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
