GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The RMU men's hockey team pushed No. 12 North Dakota to the limit but fell short in a 4-3 overtime loss on Friday night. With the result, the Colonials drop to 4-4-2 overall.
FIRST PERIOD
- North Dakota struck quickly, scoring two goals in the opening 83 seconds.
- RMU responded with nine shots on goal but couldn't convert. Both teams were 0-for-1 on the power play.
SECOND PERIOD
- The Colonials settled into the game, outshooting the Fighting Hawks 12-8 in the frame.
- RMU generated one power play opportunity but managed just one shot on goal.
THIRD PERIOD
- The Colonials came out firing in the final period, tying the game with two quick goals in the first five minutes.
- Dominic Elliott put RMU on the board with a power play goal, sniping a shot from the point.
- Moments later, Elliott set up Mitch Deelstra, who buried a wrist shot on a 3-on-2 rush to even the score at 2-2.
- North Dakota reclaimed the lead with a power play goal but faced relentless pressure late in the period.
- With the goalie pulled, Tanner Klimpke netted the dramatic equalizer with five seconds remaining, assisted by Walter Zacher and Trent Wilson.
OVERTIME
- North Dakota controlled the early stages of the 3-on-3 period, outshooting RMU 5-2.
- A late RMU penalty proved costly as the Fighting Hawks capitalized on the ensuing power play, scoring off a faceoff to secure the win.
