Colonials Fall to Cross-Town Rival Duquesne

Madison O'Dell records career-high 20 points

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The RMU women's basketball team fell to crosstown rival Duquesne, 77-61 on Monday night. Colonials guard Madison O'Dell was a standout performer as she had a team-high 20 points coming off the bench. RMU now has a 2-4 overall record with three more con-conference games remaining this season.

FIRST QUARTER
  • The Colonials were firing on all cylinders in the early going as RMU jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first three minutes of action. Noa Givon and Raissa Nsabua each hit a triple in the early Colonial run.
  • RMU's defense was playing strong and held the Dukes to just seven points up until the three-minute mark in the frame.
  • The Colonials closed the quarter with a 16-15 lead thanks in part to RMU outrebounding the Dukes 14-8 in the first frame and getting those second chances.
SECOND QUARTER
  • Duquesne was looking to turn the game around as the Dukes opened the quarter on an 11-0 scoring run. The Colonials were held scoreless up until the 5:32 mark in the frame.
  • RMU would start to slowly chip away but still saw themselves down by 10 at the 3:16 mark.
  • The Colonials completely flipped the game as RMU went on an 11-3 run in the final two minutes to close the gap and end the half with just a two-point deficit, 36-34. The highlight of the quarter was Madison O'Dell driving hard to the rim for a tough layup that ended up becoming a three-point play on the Duquesne foul call with eight seconds remaining in the quarter.

THIRD QUARTER
  • Duquesne opened the second half with a corner three as the home team extended their lead while attempting a game-high 11 three-pointers in this frame.
  • The Dukes shot their highest percentage from the field in this quarter at 52 percent but the Colonials tried to stay close.
  • RMU was remaining aggressive with the deficit as the Colonials made six trips to the charity stripe and made five of those shots. The Dukes would end up closing the quarter with a 15-point lead.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • The Colonials struggled from the field in this quarter as they made just 23 percent of their shots and were 1-7 from deep.
