RMU Volleyball Falls in Five Sets Against Milwaukee

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Colonials fell in five sets against Milwaukee on Friday evening in Horizon League action.

With the loss, the Colonials fall to 9-17, 4-11 HL while the Panthers improve to 18-10, 13-2 HL.

KEY SET MOMENTS
  • The Colonials and Panthers were involved in an intense first set battle as each team had a sizable lead but the other squad would end up getting back into the set. Later in the set, RMU was down 21-17 when the Colonials opened up a 4-0 run to tie the match. Milwaukee would go on a short three point run of their own before the Colonials bounced back thanks to some terrific defense being played by RMU, specifically Jasmine Purakal who may have had the dig of the season for RMU. Purakal was sitting on the ground and managed to get the ball back up which led to a Jocelyn Jourdan kill. However, with the extended set, Milwaukee would pull away 27-25.
  • RMU would use that first set momentum in the second stanza jumping out to a 15-6 lead thanks to the offense igniting a 10-1 scoring run. The Colonials kept their foot on the gas and didn't let their lead get below three points and escaped with a 25-21 set win.
  • The third set was very uncharacteristic for RMU compared to the rest of the match as Colonials offense sputtered throughout. RMU only scored eight points and had just five kills on 11 attack errors.
  • With their backs against the wall, RMU had their best performing set with a .289 hit percentage along with a match-high 20 kills. Jaaliyah Evans was a major force for the Colonials as she had five kills in the set and had three out of the final four points for RMU to close the set.
  • RMU pushed the match to a fifth set but it was the Milwaukee offense that clicked and had 11 kills with no attack errors. The Colonials offense tried to make the comeback but the deficit was too much to overcome as Milwaukee won the set 15-11;

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Hillarie Adams and Jaaliyah Evans each led the Colonials with 15 kills while Jocelyn Jourdan was right behind them with 14 kills. Jasmine Purakal led the team with 31 digs as she covered the floor well the entire match.
