Colonials Fall at Home Against Detroit Mercy

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's basketball team fell at home against Detroit Mercy, 66-58 on Saturday afternoon. The Colonials are now 5-8 on the season with a 1-3 mark in Horizon League play.

FIRST QUARTER
  • The Colonials got off to a fast start by jumping out to a 6-1 lead in the first three minutes of action. The RMU defense forced two Detroit Mercy turnovers and three missed shots in the early part of the quarter.
  • The Titans climbed back into the game by way of the three ball as Detroit Mercy converted on three of their five attempts from beyond the arc in the frame.
  • Both teams exchanged three-pointers to end the quarter, starting with Noa Givon who nailed a triple with 47 seconds left and then Detroit's Emaia Brown hit a buzzer-beater to give the Titans a two-point lead going to the break.
SECOND QUARTER
  • The Titans applied pressure this quarter from the free-throw line as Detroit Mercy scored half of their 18 total points from the charity stripe.
  • The Colonials defense only allowed Detroit Mercy to shoot 36 percent from the field in the frame but the Titans still managed to outscore RMU, 18-14.
  • RMU went on a short 6-0 run to close out the quarter and shrinked the Detroit Mercy lead to six going to the second half.
THIRD QUARTER
  • The Colonials came out of the break ready to score as RMU started the frame on a 6-0 run and tied the game at 32 at the seven-minute mark.
  • This was the lone quarter where RMU outscored Detroit Mercy as Mya Murray and Isys Grady each led the way with four points in the frame.
  • RMU finished the quarter strong scoring five out of the last six points thanks in large part to a Madison O'Dell triple with under a minute remaining. RMU trailed 46-42 going into the final quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • RMU struggled the most in this frame shooting the ball as the Colonials shot a game-low 31 percent from the floor.
  • The Titans made half of their shots from the field but again succeeded from the beyond the arc as they finished the quarter going 3-6 from three-point land.
  • RMU did however take advantage of Detroit's miscues with the Colonials scoring eight points off of Titan turnovers compared to UDM who had just two points off of RMU turnovers.
  • The Colonials were forced to send Detroit Mercy to the free-throw line later in the quarter and would end up falling 66-58 against the Titans.
