INDIANAPOLIS, In. – RMU women's basketball dropped a conference road matchup at IU Indianapolis, 56-46. The Colonials now have a 5-9 record with a 1-4 mark in Horizon League play.
FIRST QUARTER
- RMU got off to a slow start on the offensive end scoring just two points in the first four plus minutes of the game.
- The Jaguars shot their best percentage from the floor (46%) in the stanza while making a team-high seven field goals in the frame.
SECOND QUARTER
- The Colonials got off to a much faster start to this quarter as RMU held IU scoreless in the first three minutes while scoring the opening six points of the stanza.
- Thanks to Simone Morris, Micah O'Dell, and Jennica Suggs; RMU was able to cut the IU lead to just two points with five minutes remaining.
- Both teams exchanged points the rest of the frame until the Jaguars nailed a triple with under a minute left to push their lead to six points.
THIRD QUARTER
- RMU came out of the break ready to play their best defense all season long only allowing IU Indy to make 11 percent of their shots. The Colonials held the Jaguars scoreless for the first six minutes of the quarter.
- This was the lone quarter where RMU outscored the Jags with the Colonials tallying 11 points to go along with a game-high eight trips to the free-throw line.
- The Colonials defense was the highlight of the quarter by forcing a game-high seven turnovers in the stanza.
FOURTH QUARTER
- The Colonials continued to play stout defense and even shrunk the IU lead to one point following a couple made Naomi Barnwell free throws at the seven-minute mark.
- However, midway through the frame IU Indy went on a 7-0 scoring run while also pushing RMU into foul trouble.
- RMU shot 22 percent from the field in the stanza but the story was IU Indy forcing their way to the free-throw line with 17 attempts from the charity stripe. The Colonials would fight back but it wouldn't be enough as RMU fell 56-46.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Naomi Barnwell and
Noa Givon each led the Colonials with 14 points while Givon added a team-high two steals. With the Colonials only allowing 11 percent shooting from the Jaguars in the third quarter, that marked the lowest percentage from any RMU opponent all season.
