Colonials Fall in Conference Opener at Purdue Fort Wayne

Vuletich scored season-high 16 points

FORT WAYNE, In. – The RMU women's basketball team lost their first Horizon League matchup against Purdue Fort Wayne, 68-57. With the loss, RMU is now 2-6 on the season and will look ahead as they host Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon.

FIRST QUARTER
  • Both teams came out ready to score as there was a game-high seven lead changes in the first quarter.
  • The Colonials came out of the gate with a highlight worthy play as Noa Givon won the opening tip for RMU and found Micah O'Dell sprinting towards the basket for a slick fast break layup.
  • RMU closed the quarter on a 7-0 run in the final 3:23 as Jada Lee and Givon scored the final five points of the frame.
SECOND QUARTER
  • RMU couldn't find success from the field to start the quarter as the Colonials were held scoreless in the first four minutes.
  • The Mastodons were able to hit their shots from beyond the arc, shooting 5-10 from three-point range.
 
THIRD QUARTER
  • The Colonials were able to find their groove and shot a game-high 55 percent from the field in this frame.
  • Lee started things out for RMU scoring the first four points of the quarter while also hauling in three rebounds.
  • RMU's offense exploded at the 4:30 mark as the Colonials went on a 10-0 run capped off by a Alex Mastral layup that forced the Mastodons to take a timeout. Danielle Vuletich sparked RMU's scoring attack by notching six points in two minutes during the Colonials run.
FOURTH QUARTER
  • RMU struggled from the field in this frame shooting just 25 percent from the floor but managed to outscore Purdue Fort Wayne 16-15 in the quarter.
  • The Colonials made a season-high 10 free throws in the quarter, highlighted by Isys Grady who was 6-6 from the charity stripe.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Colonials were led on offense by senior Danielle Vuletich who scored 16 points off the bench. Jada Lee and Isys Grady each had 12 points with Grady going 10-10 from the free throw line and also having a team-high eight rebounds.
 
UP NEXT
The Colonials will come back home to host Milwaukee at the UPMC Events Center on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. and can be seen streaming live on ESPN+.
