ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The RMU men's hockey team delivered an offensive showcase Friday night, scoring seven goals en route to a commanding 7-3 victory over RIT. The win improves RMU's record to 6-6-2 overall and 3-4-1 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play.
FIRST PERIOD
- The Colonials got off to a quick start, taking advantage of a defensive miscue by RIT five minutes into the game. Tanner Klimpke capitalized on a turnover behind the Tigers' net, setting up Cameron Garvey for an easy finish in front.
- Later in the period, Walter Zacher scored his first of the night on the power play, assisted by Klimpke and Michael Craig, giving RMU a 2-0 lead heading into the second period.
SECOND PERIOD
- Zacher continued his stellar performance, adding another goal early in the second period, this time off a setup from defenseman Greg Japchen.
- RIT managed to break the shutout late in the frame, narrowing the Colonials' lead to 3-1.
THIRD PERIOD
- The final period turned into a scoring frenzy, with six goals scored between the two teams.
- RMU extended their lead early when Michael Felsing forced a turnover and fed Klimpke, who buried his third point of the night with a sharp shot.
- Minutes later, Luke van Why sent a breakout pass to Mitch Deelstra, who converted on a breakaway to make it 5-1.
- RIT responded with two quick goals, including one on the power play, cutting the deficit to 5-3.
- The Tigers pulled their goalie for an extra attacker, but RMU quickly capitalized as Zacher assisted Trent Wilson on an empty-net goal.
- With less than a minute remaining, freshman Braden Rourke scored his first career goal on a backhanded move to secure the Colonials' emphatic 7-3 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- RMU outshot RIT 34-31, while the Tigers held a slight edge in faceoff wins (35-31).
- Garvey led RMU in the faceoff circle with nine wins, while George Krotiris posted a strong 7-for-9 performance.
- Rourke, along with scoring his first career goal, led the team defensively with four blocked shots.
- Several players, including Klimpke, Zacher, Wilson, Deelstra, and Trevor LeDonne, finished with a team-best +2 rating.
- Freshman goaltender Croix Kochendorfer stopped 28 shots, earning his fifth win of the season.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES
- Walter Zacher: The sophomore forward recorded two goals and one assist, bringing his season total to nine goals, which ranks second in the AHA. Zacher notched his seventh multipoint game of the season and third career three-point effort.
- Tanner Klimpke: The sophomore forward posted a career-high four points with one goal and three assists. Klimpke now has 19 goals, 19 assists, and 38 points in 51 career games. Tonight, marked his seventh career multipoint game.

The Colonials will look to complete the sweep against RIT tomorrow, December 7, with puck drop scheduled for 5:00 PM at the Gene Polessini Center.
