YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – RMU's late rally came up short in its 87-77 setback at Youngstown State Wednesday evening. The Colonials fall to 10-16, 6-9 HL while the Penguins improve to 19-8, 11-5 HL.
 
1^st HALF
After RMU opened up the contest leading 9-6, YSU went on a 20-6 run to take a 26-15 lead at the 8:16 mark. The Colonials were able to get it down to three points after six straight points by Markeese Hastings followed by a 3-pointer by Justice Williams that cut the deficit to 31-28 with 4:10 remaining in the half. The Penguins went into halftime leading 37-33.
 
2^nd HALF
After falling behind by nine at the 14:32 mark of the 2^nd half, RMU went on a 13-2 run in just over two minutes capped by back-to-back 3-pointers from Josh Corbin and a pair of free throws from Stephaun Walker's that put the Colonials up 54-53 at 11:33. RMU would be on the wrong end of a 13-0 run, falling behind 66-54 just before the under 8 media timeout. They made it a two-possession game at 78-72 on Walker layup with 1:40 to go, but Ziggy Reid hit a wide open 3-pointer on the next possession. Still trailing by nine with 29.3 seconds remaining, Corbin hit three free throws after being fouled beyond-the-arc, making the score 83-77. However, that would be final tallies for RMU.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Walker finished with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. Eighteen of Corbin's team-high 26 points were from 3-point land. Williams scored 17 and Hastings added 15.
 
Brett Thompson led all scorers with 27 points while DJ Burns scored 24 and Reid 20 for YSU.
 
UP NEXT
RMU remains on the road to face Wright State Saturday, February 17. The Colonials return to the UPMC Events Center to host Oakland Thursday, February 22.
