Colonials Fall to Georgia State at I-75 Challenge

ATLANTA, Ga. – RMU posted 10 runs in the doubleheader against Georgia State but fell 4-2 and 11-8. The Colonials are now 1-5 overall and the Panthers are 4-10.
 
GAME 1
  • In game one of the doubleheader, the Panthers opened the scoring, adding two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
  • RMU quickly responded in the next inning as Alaina Koutsogiani blasted her first home run of the season with Anna Resnik on base to tie the game up, 2-2.
  • Later in the game, Georgia State tallied another run in the third and in the fifth inning to earn a 4-2 victory.
  • Junior Madison DeVault pitched 4.1 innings and threw six strikeouts. Jaimee Hardy closed out the last 1.2 innings in the circle and didn't allow a run.
 
GAME 2
  • Across the second game of the day, both sides' offense shined as each team battled back and forth throughout the whole game.
  • RMU kicked off the scoring in the second inning as Charlotte Grover brought in Anna Resnik, flying out to center field.
  • Advancing Alaina Koutsogiani to third base was key, setting up freshman Kaylyn Hopf to bring in Koutsogiani, giving the Colonials a 2-0 lead.
  • Across the third inning, the Panthers retaliated with two runs themselves, tying up the ball game.
  • Moving into the fourth inning, graduate Avery Winchell reached off an error which brought in Katlyn Jardine to quickly take back the lead.
  • In the fifth inning, Georgia State hit their second and third home runs of the game and went back ahead, 7-3.
  • RMU clawed back as Koutsogiani got right back in the mix. With a single to left field, Resnik and Winchell both rounded the bases to home plate. Continuing the rally in the sixth inning, Koutsogiani scored as Mikayla Jardine reached off an error by the third baseman, making it a 7-6 game.
  • Next inning, Georgia State paced for another run, extending their lead to two.
  • Entering the seventh inning, the Colonials tied up the game thanks to an RBI double by Catalina Saxen and Anna Resnik.
  • In the bottom of the final inning, the Panthers hit a walk-off, three-run homer to win the game, 11-8.
  • Junior Anna Resnik was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate in game two of the series. Her and Koutsogiani led the team in runs with two each.
 
UP NEXT
The Colonials will play another two games tomorrow at the I-75 Challenge. The first game will be played at 11:00 AM against UNC-Greensboro. Game two is scheduled for 2:00 PM against Georgia Tech.
