RMU Ends Regular Season Falling to Air Force

RMU will play at Bentley for First Round of 2024 AHA Playoffs

USAFO, CO – Air Force's special team units were the difference as the Falcons beat the Colonials, 2-1 to end the regular season. RMU finishes up the regular season with a 10-23-3 overall record and 7-17-2 record in the Atlantic Hockey conference. Air Force earned a bye from the first round, wrapping up the regular season with a 18-17-1 overall record and 15-10-1 record in AHA action.
 
1st PERIOD
- Four minutes into the opening period, freshman Tanner Klimpke scored his second goal of the series. On the play, Walter Zacher and Logan Ganie assisted Klimpke on the play. 

2nd PERIOD
- Through the middle frame, the Falcons peppered 21 shots on goal.
- Air Force tied up the game while on the penalty kill. Brian Adams scored the shorty and only goal in the period. 

3rd PERIOD
- In the final period, each side had two power play opportunities.
- The Falcons scored the game-winning goal on their fifth power play chance of the night, and secured a bye week from the 2024 AHA Playoffs, winning 2-1. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Freshman Luke van Why paced for the most shots with six on goal. Defensively, he also led all skaters in blocked shots, posting four. Walter Zacher, Tanner Klimpke, Logan Ganie and Gabriel Lunn all finished as a +1 on the night. Along with his assist, Logan Ganie won a team-high 10 faceoffs. The penalty kill unit killed off six of Air Force's seven power plays. For the third time in the 2023-24 campaign, goaltender Francis Boisvert registered 40+ saves in a game.
 
FRESHMAN FORCE
From Calgary, Alberta, first-year forward Tanner Klimpke ended the regular season as the team leader in goals and points. With two more goals in the series at Air Force, he produced 13 goals, 11 assists and 24 points over 34 games.
 
UP NEXT
No. 11 RMU will now travel out to Waltham, Mass. to take on No. 6 Bentley in the first round of the 2024 AHA Playoffs. The game is scheduled for Saturday, March 2.
