Garvey nets game-winning goal with 10 seconds left in overtime

WALTHAM, Mass. – Freshman Cameron Garvey's overtime winner with 10 seconds left in OT sends RMU to the 2024 AHA Quarterfinal round with a 4-3 victory over Bentley. The Colonials are now 11-23-3 overall and Bentley ends their season with a 16-17-2 record.

2nd PERIOD
- 49 seconds into the middle frame, the home side tied up the score.
- Later on, in the period, there was a battle for puck possession in Bentley's end. Jackson Reineke won the battle and dished the puck off to Rylee St. Onge in the corner. The captain found defenseman Luke Johnson skating towards the net who slotted home a wrister to give the Colonials a 2-1 lead.
- About four minutes later, Rylee St. Onge added to RMU's lead. Dallas Tulik won a faceoff draw right back to St. Onge. The veteran unleashed a low shot, going five-hole past the netminder, making it 3-1.

3rd PERIOD
- Entering the third period, Bentley tied up the game within the first 10 minutes, scoring two quick goals, including one on the power play.
- The Falcons led in shots on goal through the third, 9-8.

OVERTIME
- Throughout the 5on5, golden goal overtime period, both sides shared few chances as both sides focused on defense.
- Bentley held the edge in shots, 7-6.
- With 10 seconds remaining in OT, freshman Cameron Garvey would be the hero, scoring the game-winning goal. Tanner Klimpke dumped the puck in, handled by Bentley's goaltender behind the net. Garvey stripped the puck from Connor Hasley, wrapped around and cashed in to send RMU to the 2024 AHA Quarterfinals.

He's currently riding a four-game point streak, owning three goals and one assist and has cashed in three contests in a row. He scored the first goal of the night, recording his fourth power play tally and first career playoff goal. Klimpke remains the team's leader in goals and points (14g, 11a, 25pts).

GARVEY'S GAME-WINNER
Cameron Garvey's first career playoff goal will go down as one of the most important goals in his career, as his wrap-around finish with 10 seconds left in overtime sends RMU to the 2024 AHA Quarterfinals. From Oakville, Ontario, Garvey registered his third game-winning goal of the season. The freshman owns 11 goals and three assists in the campaign and holds six goals and two assists in his last nine appearances.

QUOTABLE
"It was a really good hockey game. Both teams left it on the line. It was even and it came down to a player making a play. We found a way to win and that's the most important thing to do this time of year." – Head Coach Derek Schooley

"We had 'playoff Chad (Veltri)' tonight. He was outstanding. Our blue liners stepped up for us and played tough. All of the graduates have ingrained themselves in our culture and want to leave it better than what it started as. We couldn't have done it without our older guys and they've shown the younger guys the way." – Head Coach Derek Schooley

UP NEXT
No. 11 RMU will now head to No. 1 RIT in the 2024 AHA Quarterfinal Round. The best-of-three series is scheduled for March 8-10.
