RMU Women's Lacrosse Falls at Bucknell, 17-11

LEWISBURG, Pa– The RMU Women's Lacrosse team fell on the road against in-state foe Bucknell, 17-11.

With the loss, the Colonials drop to 0-4 to start the season. Additionally, the Bison picked up their first win of the season as they improved to 1-3 on the year.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Bucknell opened the scoring just under two minutes into the game, securing a goal before the Colonials knotted the score just 37 seconds later. Senior attacker Lilli Hadden got RMU on the board at the 13:02 mark. The Bison would then score four unanswered goals to hold a 5-1 lead in the first until the Colonials bounced back with two quick goals. Maya Metz and Chelsea Coleman each scored their first goals of the season to make the score 6-3 in favor of the home team at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter didn't go smoothly for the Colonials as they were shutout 2-0 in the second frame and dealt with an 8-3 deficit going into the break.

The third quarter was a complete back and forth offensive showcase as the Bison opened the frame with three straight goals but then the Colonials bounced back with three of their own to end the quarter. Jenna Irwin was responsible for three of RMU's four goals in the third quarter while Maya Metz tallied another goal for the Colonials in the third. RMU continued the upward offensive trajectory in the fourth quarter as they tallied three straight goals to begin the frame courtesy of Colleen Tifft, Lilli Hadden, and Jenna Irwin. The score was now 13-10 in favor of Bucknell until the Bison evidently iced the game with three straight tallies and now led 16-10 with two minutes remaining. Jordan Anderson got the final goal of the game for the Colonials but it wasn't enough as RMU fell on the road.

THE IRWIN EFFECT
Junior midfielder Jenna Irwin had an offensive explosion for the Colonials as she tallied a season-high four goals against the Bison. Irwin ignited the RMU offense in the third quarter as she scored three goals after the halftime break. The Liverpool N.Y. native netted another goal for the Colonials in the fourth quarter to close out one of her best games in the blue and white.

FIRST TIMERS
Four RMU players carded their firsts against Bucknell on Saturday. Sophomore Maya Metz netted her first two career goals against the Bison with one coming in the first and third quarter. Chelsea Coleman recorded her first goal of the season in a man up situation in the first frame. RMU midfielder Jordan Anderson also got her first goal of the 2024 season in the final seconds of the fourth quarter. Junior Lizzie Paterno tallied her first two points coming off of assists that occurred in the first and fourth quarters courtesy of goals by Coleman and Anderson.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Six different Colonials netted goals against Bucknell, led by Irwin with four. Colleen Tifft recorded three points off of a goal and two assists on the afternoon. Lilli Hadden tallied two goals on a team-high six shots on goal. Jordan Anderson not only recorded her first goal of the season but also led the team with four draw controls. Goalkeeper Sydney Riker played all 60 minutes and finished the game with 13 saves against the Bison.

UP NEXT
The Colonials will stay on the road and make the short trip to face Saint Francis on Wednesday afternoon. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Loretto, Pa.
