Late Basket Lifts Cleveland State Over RMU Men’s Basketball 73-71

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Drew Lowder's jumper with 1.1 seconds left gave Cleveland State a 73-71 victory over RMU at the UPMC Events Center on Sunday afternoon. The Colonials fall to 10-19 overall and 6-12 in the Horizon League. The Vikings improve to 17-12 and 10-8 HL.
 
1st HALF
Josh Corbin connected on a pair of 3-pointers early in the contest, but a 12-4 Cleveland State run put them ahead 18-12 at the12:42 mark. The Colonials would get within a point twice, before the Vikings scored the final six points to send the game into halftime leading 42-31.
 
2nd HALF
It took five minutes for RMU to make it a one possession game as Corbin's 3-pointer made the score 48-45 with 14:52 on the clock. Lowder would make three baskets over the next three minutes to put CSU ahead 59-49 at 11:30. The Colonials defense held the Vikings to one field goal over the next 4:20 as Chris Ford's layup cut the deficit to two points at 63-61.   
 
Trailing by four with 4:15 left, a Justice Williams 3-pointer followed by an Alvaro Folgueiras free throw deadlocked the game at 69-69 with 1:14 remaining. The teams exchanged layups on their ensuing possessions before Lowder's game-winner. RMU inbounded with 1.1 seconds remaining, but Markeese Hastings' shot from was off target.
 
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Hastings recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Corbin finished the game with 17 points, four assists and five 3-pointers. Williams added 17 points. Folgueiras pulled down 10 rebounds. Jackson Last recorded a career-best three blocks.The Colonials did a good job of protecting the ball with a season-low five turnovers to go with 16 assists.
 
Tristan Enaruna led all players with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Tae Williams had 15 and Lowder 10 for Cleveland State.
 
ADDITIONAL NOTES
Today was a season-best 1,555 attendance mark to celebrate RMU's seniors. Hastings, Corbin and Last were honored in a pregame ceremony.
 
 
UP NEXT
RMU closes out its home schedule at the UPMC Events Center on Wednesday, February 28 when the Colonials host Northern Kentucky.
