RMU WBB Closes Regular Season with Loss to Northern Kentucky

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's basketball team lost at home in their regular season finale to Northern Kentucky, 76-52.  With the loss, RMU drops to 6-23 overall and 2-18 in Horizon League action while Northern Kentucky moves to 10-18 overall and 8-11 in conference action.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
The Colonials were cold from the field to start the game as Northern Kentucky seized a 16-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the contest. RMU missed their first nine shots of the game before a Natalie Johnson layup put the home team on the board with 2:42 remaining in the first quarter.

RMU was able to capitalize on offense to start the second half as they shot a stellar 72 percent from the field in the third quarter. Simone Morris had six points in the quarter while Vuletich notched four to keep the Colonials within striking distance of the Norse.

QUOTABLES
RMU Colonials Acting Head Coach Scott Schneider started out his postgame comments with, "We have to get a lot tougher, and it's got to start with our practices. I know I said that last game, and I actually felt like we had a pretty good couple of days of practice, but our resilience just isn't there. And just when the tough moments come, we just don't seem to bounce back from them yet." Schneider added about the team defense, "We haven't been communicating the level that we need to. We've been addressing it and it's easy when it's relaxed and when it's calm and then when the moments calm and the intensity happens and you're really in the fire is when that needs to elevate and escalate and that's what seems to not always click with us as well is those moments." Schneider closed his statement by saying, "We're gonna see how gritty we are. We're gonna see what we're made of and, you know, hopefully we go out there and surprise some people but most importantly, we got to prove it to ourselves."

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Danielle Vuletich recorded yet another double-double this season as she recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds against the Norse. Simone Morris added eight points along with three boards for the Colonials. RMU outscored the Norse in the paint as the home team tallied 28 points in the paint compared to the Norse who had 22.

UP NEXT
The Colonials will wait and see who they play next Tuesday night in the first round of the Horizon League tournament. RMU has clinched the 11th seed in the tournament which means they will play their first-round game on the road next week against the sixth seed.
