Holden’s Overtime Goal Gives RMU Men’s Lacrosse A 13-12 Victory Over Detroit Mercy

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa.  – Elliot Holden's goal nine seconds into overtime lifted the RMU men's lacrosse team to a 13-12 victory over Detroit Mercy on Wednesday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium. The Colonials improve to 2-5, 1-1 ASUN while the Titans are still looking for its first win of the season, falling to 0-6, 0-2 ASUN.
 
1st QUARTER
RMU got on the board first on Ben Starkey's goal set up from Gavin Pedone. Detroit Mercy followed by scoring three of the next four goals. Kean Moon scored a pair of unassisted tallies to make the score 4-3.
 
2nd QUARTER
Starkey's second goal of the game tied the score and Eric Swagerty and David Burr put the Colonials ahead 6-4. UDM would tied the match at 7-7 before Burr's goal with 2:17 left sent the game into halftime with RMU leading 8-7.
 
3rd QUARTER
Burr opened the quarter's scoring but UDM came back to tied the score 9-9 at 10:06. Starkey and Joel McCormick put RMU ahead 11-9 at 8:11 before the Titans tied the score at 11-11.   
 
4th QUARTER
Detroit Mercy went ahead 12-11 20 seconds into the quarter. Moon's second goal of the match tie the score at 12-12 with 3:51 remaining. Keeper Nate Fechter made a huge save at the 1:27 mark. After the clear and a Colonials timeout, the Titans were flagged for a 30 second pushing penalty. Starkey's chance for the game-winner with 11 seconds went wide.
 
OVERTIME
RMU maintained possession to begin overtime. Nine seconds in, Swagerty found Holden for the game-winner.
