RMU Women's Lacrosse Drops Conference Matchup Against Detroit Mercy

Moon Township, Pa– The RMU women's lacrosse team returned home but fell to Detroit Mercy, 12-9.

With the loss, the Colonials dropped to 3-9, 2-1 MAC while the Titans moved to 3-8 and have now won their second straight conference game.

1st HALF
The first quarter didn't go as planned for the Colonials as they only had three shots on goal along with four turnovers that gave the Titans an early advantage. Detroit Mercy would shutout RMU 5-0 in the first frame as they relentlessly attacked the Colonials net with 12 shots.

RMU bounced back in the second quarter as they scored the first two goals of the frame courtesy of Julia Hadden and Eliana LaMange. Detroit Mercy would rebound with two goals of their own to jump back out to a five-goal lead. The Colonials ended the first half strong as Lilli Hadden and Chelsea Coleman scored 12 seconds apart just before halftime to cut the deficit to three.

2ND HALF
Both squads started the third quarter ready to score as it was the highest scoring quarter of the game with seven goals combined between the two teams. The Titans opened the scoring with two goals and then Colleen Tifft netted her first goal of the game at the 10-minute mark of the third. Jenna Irwin and Julia Koterwas chipped in with one goal each in the third frame but Detroit Mercy's Cat Kopchia scored two of her game-high four goals in the third quarter to keep RMU at bay.

Irwin was the driving force for RMU on offense in the fourth quarter as she scored two goals to keep the Colonials in the game. This is now the fourth straight game where Irwin has scored atleast three goals. However, Detroit Mercy stayed potent on offense as they wouldn't let RMU complete the second half comeback.
