HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – RMU softball won both games in the double-header at NKU, winning 5-2 and 1-0. The Colonials are now 12-18 overall and 7-7 in conference play. The Norse now hold a 16-14, 9-5 #HLSB record.
GAME 1
- After two scoreless innings, the Colonials started the scoring in the top of the third inning.
- With the bases loaded, Catalina Saxen singled to left field. Running the bases, Alaina Koutsogiani and Courtney Poulich both scored to take a 2-0 lead.
- NKU quickly responded in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs to tie up the contest.
- Entering the fifth inning, Koutsogiani recorded her second walk of the game and later scored a run off a wild pitch.
- In the next inning, with a 3-2 lead, the Colonials extended the score. Once again, bases were loaded and with walks by Kaylyn Hopf and Anna Resnik, RMU registered two more runs to win the first game, 5-2.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
RMU showed consistent patience at the plate all game, recording a season-high 10 walks. Senior
Catalina Saxen paced for a team leading two runs batted in.
Alaina Koutsogiani and
Courtney Poulich each scored two runs in the win. In the circle, freshman
Kaitlyn Molitoris started the game, pitching for four innings and throwing down four strikeouts.
Kailani Tatro threw in the middle of the contest for 1.1 innings. Withholding the home side from scoring a run, she earned her third win of the season. Closing the game out,
Madison DeVault pitched the final 1.2 innings, not allowing a hit and picking up her third save of the campaign.
GAME 2
- On the backend of the double-header, RMU and NKU played a low-scoring defensive game.
- The first three innings of the game featured no runs scored by either program.
- Onto the fourth inning, Logan Black reached first base off a fielding error by the Norse's third baseman. Off that play, McKenzie Hoover advanced to third and Kaylyn Hopf reached home plate.
- That run was the only score the Colonials needed, as they shut out NKU's offense and won, 1-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
RMU achieved their second shutout of the season against NKU in game two of the series. Their previous clean sheet came against Akron (3/19) in a 5-0 victory.
Jane Garver pitched five innings for the Colonials, posting a shutout in her appearance.
Madison DeVault stepped in to complete the final two innings and collecting her fourth save in her junior campaign. The tandem only allowed two hits in the game.
KOUTS REACHES 100
Junior
Alaina Koutsogiani officially reached 100 career hits in today's second game. From Peters Township, she's posted 46 RBI's, 63 stolen bases, six home runs and four triples in her career.
