MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa – RMU women's lacrosse defeated Duquesne in their last non-conference game of the year, 14-8.
With the win, the Colonials moved to 5-11, 3-2 MAC while the Dukes dropped to 7-8, 2-5 A10.
1st HALF
Duquesne started the scoring with two quick goals to open up the match within the first five minutes. At the seven-minute mark RMU regained their offensive form by finding the back of the net three straight times to end the first frame.
Chelsea Coleman,
Isabella Teal, and
Colleen Tifft each recorded first quarter goals to help RMU gain the lead.
The Colonials continued to fire on all cylinders to start the second frame with four consecutive goals. RMU collected a team-high seven shots on goal in the second quarter as Duquesne tried to fend off the Colonials offensive attack. After opening the game with a 2-0 lead, Duquesne found themselves trailing 7-3 entering halftime.
2ND HALF
Both teams traded goals throughout the third quarter as there were a combined eight goals in the frame. RMU had tallies from
Lilli Hadden,
Eliana LaMange, and
Maggie Boyle who scored her first goal of the season against the Dukes. Duquesne would strike back with three straight goals in the third frame and only trailed 10-8 heading into the final quarter.
RMU's defense shined in the fourth quarter as they only allowed the Dukes three shots on goal while shutting them out in the frame. The Colonials took advantage on the offensive side by scoring four goals which closed out the game. RMU has now won the last three matchups in the series as this was the first contest between the two schools since 2018.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Isabella Teal had the best game of her freshman year to date with a career-high four goals on a team-high five shots on net.
Chelsea Coleman had a five-point performance as she recorded three goals and two assists against the Dukes.
Jenna Irwin and
Lilli Hadden each tallied two goals while Irwin added five draw controls.
Colleen Tifft,
Eliana LaMange, and
Maggie Boyle each found the back of the net once against Duquesne.
Sydney Riker had eight saves in net while shutting out the Dukes in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
UP NEXT
The Colonials will have an extended break before their next matchup on Saturday, April 27
th at Eastern Michigan. The opening draw is set for 1:00 p.m. as this will be the final regular season game for the Colonials.
