Colonials Stage Late Comebacks, Seize Victories of 9-3 and 4-2 at Oakland

Offense scores 10 runs alone in the seventh inning today; DeVault earns two wins in the circle

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Colonials seventh inning comebacks proved to be the difference as they beat Oakland 9-3 and 4-2 to win the series. RMU is now 18-20 overall and 13-9 in conference. Oakland now owns a record of 21-16, 13-6 #HLSB.
 
GAME 1
  • After a scoreless first two innings of play, the Golden Grizzlies tallied the first run of the game in the bottom of the third.
  • Heading into the fifth inning, Anna Resnik reached on a fielder's choice as Kaylyn Hopf was recorded out at second. On the play, the home side's shortstop was put down for an error as Koutsogiani rounded third and scored an unearned run.
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, Oakland registered two more runs to take back their lead, 3-1.
  • Entering the top of the seventh inning, the Colonials put forth their best offensive inning of the season, scoring eight runs to win the game.
  • Beginning the rally, Catalina Saxen slammed a 2-RBI single to tie the game.
  • Then, Avery Winchell singled down the right side to give the Colonials a one-run advantage.
  • With bases loaded, Courtney Poulich put the ball in play reaching on a fielder's choice which brought in Saxen.
  • Continuing on, Jess Matheny slapped a hit into center field that brought in two more runs, making it a 6-3 game.
  • Defensively, Oakland recorded another error, allowing Courtney Poulich to score.
  • And finally, Alaina Koutsogiani completed the rally with a 2-RBI triple to push RMU way ahead and win, 9-3.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Offensively, RMU recorded 12 hits and four separate players posted two-hit performances. Catalina Saxen and Alaina Koutsogiani each led the way with a team-high 2-RBI game. Catcher Meadow Sacadura scored a team leading two runs in the contest. In the circle, Jaimee Hardy started the game, going 4.2 innings. Freshman Kaitlyn Molitoris stepped in for 1/3 of an inning, retiring a batter by strikeout. Finishing out the game and earning the win was junior Madison DeVault. She threw the last two innings, allowing only one hit and got all six of her outs done by strikeouts.
 
MILESTONE ACHIEVED
With a hit in game one at Oakland, junior Anna Resnik officially reached her 100th career hit. From Elizabeth, Pa., Resnik owns 66 runs and 40 runs batted in. Also, producing two RBI's, junior Alaina Koutsogiani eclipsed 50 RBI's in her career. The third baseman out of Peters Township possesses 105 hits and 84 runs.
 
GAME 2
  • To begin game two, Oakland started off on the right foot, hitting a 2-run homer in the bottom of the first.
  • No runs were scored over the next four innings until the Colonials tied it up in the sixth.
  • Pitching previously in game one, Jaimee Hardy pinch hit for RMU. Her single down the right field line brought home Courtney Poulich and Charlotte Grover.
  • Coming in clutch in the top of the seventh, Poulich pulled a line drive over the left field wall to give RMU a 4-2 win.  
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
At the plate, Poulich and Hardy cashed in two RBI's. RMU outhit Oakland 10-6 as Charlotte Grover posted a team-high three hits. Her along with Poulich recorded two runs each in the victory. Starting pitcher in game two was senior Jane Garver, going 4.2 innings for the Colonials. She threw three strikeouts in her performance. Picking up her second win of the day, Madison DeVault pitched the final 2.1 innings. The junior out of Dover, Ohio paced for two strikeouts and earned her fifth win of the campaign.
 
LUCKY 7
The Colonials climbed back twice today in the final inning to earn two crucial victories. A total of 10 runs were scored in the seventh inning by RMU to secure a series win over Oakland. RMU's eight runs in the top of the seventh in game one of the series is the most runs scored in one inning by the team this season.
 
HEATING UP AT THE RIGHT TIME
RMU has pushed themselves forward to fourth place in the standings of the Horizon League conference. The Colonials are riding a four-game win streak and are 8-2 in their last 10 games. Over the last four wins, RMU has outscored their opposition 25-8. Across their last four conference series, the Colonials have posted a home run. Along this stretch, outfielder Courtney Poulich owns three home runs in her last eight games.
