MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – YSU's two shutouts defeat RMU, 1-0 and 2-0. The Colonials are now 10-17 overall and 5-6 in Horizon League action. The Penguins moved up to 25-12 and 12-2 in conference play.
GAME 1
- Freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Molitoris started the game in the circle for the Colonials.
- She went through the first four innings not allowing a single hit.
- RMU's best chance to score came in the bottom of the third inning.
- The inning began with a leadoff single by Meadow Sacadura. Pinch running for the catcher, Bailee Bertani stole second base and reached third off a single by Jess Matheny.
- The Colonials almost scored the first run of the series as the ball was put into play by Kaylyn Hopf. Bertani sprinted in quick, but a quick shovel pass from the Penguins third baseman to their catcher was quick enough to tag her out.
- Entering the fifth inning, an RBI triple by YSU would be the difference to win 1-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
In a low scoring game, the Penguins recorded four hits and RMU posted three.
Kaitlyn Molitoris pitched a career high five innings in her outing. She tied her career best five strikeouts as she did against Akron (3/19).
Kailani Tatro finished off the final two innings and didn't allow a run to be scored.
GAME 2
- In game two of the double-header, the Penguins scored in their first at bat.
- Sara Fessler hit a home run to left field to give the away side a 1-0 lead.
- Fessler produced YSU's second RBI of the contest as well. This time, she hit an RBI single to left field, bringing in one player to gain a 2-0 advantage in the fifth inning.
- The Colonials gathered two walks and a hit through the final three innings but weren't able to add a score and fell 2-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
RMU registered four hits in the second game of the series.
Kaylyn Hopf and
Catalina Saxen each paced for one hit and one walk at the plate. Senior
Jane Garver started in the circle for the Colonials, going 5.2 innings and throwing five strikeouts. Junior
Madison DeVault came in relief, pitching the final 1.1 innings. She gave up no runs and posted two strikeouts.

The series finale against YSU will be played tomorrow at the North Athletic Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
