GREENSBORO, N.C. - RMU volleyball closed the Spartan Classic with an impressive 3-1 match win against Missouri State on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Colonials improve to 2-1 on the season as the Bears dropped their first match of 2024.
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Both teams started the match going back and forth with points as there were 12 instances in which the first set was tied until the Colonials went on a 6-0 run to help win the set.
Hillarie Adams had two kills and
Ashleigh Wallin had two aces during the set clinching run. Late in the third set, with the match tied at one win a piece,
Natalie Stepanovich came up with a kill which was followed up by an ace to help the Colonials take the pivotal third set, 25-20. In the final set, RMU scored eight out of the final 10 points to close out the match and improve to 2-1 in the opening weekend.
ACES GALORE
The Colonials found success at the service line late in sets to help propel them to victory. Wallin had a team-leading three aces while
Azra Eric had two aces and Stepanovich finished with one. These aces occurred in both 6-0 runs that RMU had in today's match.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Stepanovich and Adams both led the Colonials with 14 kills with Stepanovich adding 15 digs as well. Wallin led RMU with 28 assists while also having a team-high three aces.
Jaidan Hockman registered a team-high 17 digs while chipping in five assists for the Colonials.
UP NEXT
The Colonials open the home slate at UPMC Events Center on Sept. 6 for the Chick Fil-A Robinson Classic. RMU will play Coppin State in the home opener at 11:00 a.m. followed by Niagara at 6:00 p.m. RMU will then travel to Duquesne the following day to close out the tournament at 3:00 p.m..
