LOGAN, Utah – Despite leading at halftime, RMU dropped a 36-14 season-opening decision to Utah State on Saturday night at Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium.
The Colonials (0-1) were led by
Anthony Chiccitt who completed 22 of 30 passes, finding 10 different receivers for 171 yards and one touchdown. On the ground,
Tyvon Edmonds Jr. ran for 86 yards.
Cole Mitchell pulled in four passes for 60 yards.
On defense,
Jamar Shegog led all players with 11 tackles.
Tyris Harvey recorded a pair of interceptions – both in the 1
st quarter and
Rob Carter, Jr. added an acrobatic one-handed interception.
After Utah State went up 7-0 in the 1
st quarter, Robert Morris tied the score on a Mitchell 40-yard touchdown reception from Chiccitt. The Aggies regained the advantage on a 36-yard field goal before
Delvecchio Powell II's 31-yard touchdown gave the Colonials a 14-10 lead heading into halftime.
Utah State's first drive of the 3
rd quarter ended with a 53-yard touchdown pass to put them up 17-14 at the 10:33 mark. They extended the lead to 20-14 at 2:38 on a 50-yard field goal. The Aggies added 16 points in the 4
th quarter.
The Colonials return home to Joe Walton Stadium to open the home slate on Saturday, September 7 against Edinboro. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
