RMU Football Marks Return to NEC With 21-14 Victory at Wagner

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Tyvon Edmonds Jr. scored a pair of touchdowns to lead Robert Morris (2-2, 1-0 NEC) to a 21-14 victory at Wagner (2-2, 0-1 NEC) on Saturday afternoon at Hameline Field. The victory marks the first for the Colonials in the NEC since Nov. 23, 2019.
 
After falling behind 7-0, Edmonds got the Colonials on the board on a 2-yard touchdown run with 5:37 remaining in the 1st quarter. The game would stay deadlocked at 7-7 heading into halftime.
 
RMU received the ball to start the 3rd quarter and used an 84-yard drive, set up by an Anthony Chiccitt to Noah Robinson 59-yard reception and capped by an Edmonds 1-yard score to go ahead 14-7 at 12:09. The Colonials' defense held the Seahawks to a 3-and-out on its next possession. Tahseen Howard took the punt 43 yards to the Wagner 14-yard line. Chiccitt called his number on back-to-back plays, rushing for 11 yards, then for 3 yards for a touchdown, putting RMU ahead 21-7 at 10:22.
 
Wagner closed the gap to 21-14 with 4:24 left in the 4th quarter and held the Colonials to a 3-and-out, regaining possession with 3:37 to play. However, they could not move the ball and were forced to punt. RMU took over with 2:15 left and sealed the contest by converting a 3rd-and-8 when Chiccitt found Carl Smith Jr. for a 38-yard catch with 1:52 left.
 
Chiccitt finished 17-of-27 for 219 yards and 28 yards rushing. Edmonds had 99 yards on 16 attempts with a long of 49. Robinson hauled in four balls for 90 yards. Keon Freeman recorded a career-high nine tackles. Turner Schmidt had a pair of sacks while Jamar Shegog added one sack. Tyris Harvey broke up two passes.
 
RMU steps out of NEC play for the next two games as they face Eastern Kentucky on September 28 at Roy Kidd Stadium. After a week off, the Colonials return to Joe Walton Stadium for Homecoming against Delaware State on October 12.
