WORCESTER, Mass. – The RMU men's hockey team secured a 2-2 tie against Holy Cross in the series finale, thanks to a late goal in regulation. The Crusaders picked up the extra point in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) standings with a 1-0 shootout win. RMU now holds an 8-10-3 overall record and a 5-6-2 mark in AHA action.
FIRST PERIOD
- For the second consecutive night, the first period remained scoreless.
- The Colonials had the edge in offensive opportunities, outshooting the Crusaders 10-7.
SECOND PERIOD
- Holy Cross opened the scoring early in the middle frame with a goal from John Gelatt.
- RMU's penalty-kill unit delivered a crucial performance, successfully defending a two-minute, 5-on-3 disadvantage late in the period.
THIRD PERIOD
- Midway through the final frame, the Colonials leveled the score with a beautifully executed power-play goal. Michael Craig sent a pass across the blue line to Gabriel Lunn, who fed Cameron Garvey on the wing. Garvey connected with Tanner Klimpke at the backdoor for the equalizer.
- Five minutes later, the Crusaders regained the lead on a goal from Matt DeBoer.
- RMU responded quickly as defenseman Braden Rourke netted his second goal of the season off an assist from Trent Wilson, tying the game once again.
OVERTIME
- In the 3-on-3 overtime period, both teams generated two shots on goal but were unable to find the winner, leading to a shootout.
SHOOTOUT
- The Colonials were unable to convert on any of their three shootout attempts. Holy Cross's final shooter, Michael Abgrall, found the back of the net, securing the extra point for the Crusaders.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Holy Cross outshot RMU 30-25, but the Colonials held the advantage in faceoffs, winning 45 of 81 draws. Freshman Trent Wilson set a career high with 16 faceoff wins.
- RMU's Wilson, Rourke, McKay Hayes, J.R. Ashmead, and Luke van Why finished with a +1 rating.
- The Colonials blocked 14 shots as a team, with Wilson, Ashmead, and Garvey leading the effort with two each.
- Freshman goaltender Croix Kochendorfer made 28 saves in net.

The Colonials will begin a seven-game homestand starting Tuesday, January 14, against Canisius. Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM at Clearview Arena.
