Colonials Pour in Six Goals to Beat RIT

Five Colonials record multipoint efforts

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. The RMU men's hockey team showcased a high-powered offense, scoring six goals to defeat RIT, 6-1, in the series opener at Clearview Arena. The win improves the Colonials' record to 9-10-3 overall and 6-6-2 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play.
 
FIRST PERIOD
  • RMU opened the scoring just three minutes into the game as Dominic Elliott slapped in a shot off assists from Tanner Klimpke and Trevor LeDonne.
  • Five minutes later, McKay Hayes doubled the lead with his third goal of the season, assisted by Trent Wilson and Elliott.
  • Before the period ended, the Colonials capitalized on a turnover as Wilson found the back of the net, set up by Michael Felsing and Klimpke.
  • The Colonials outshot the Tigers 13-9 in the opening frame and successfully killed off a penalty.
 
SECOND PERIOD
  • Early in the period, RMU extended their lead with a power play goal from Mitch Deelstra, assisted by Wilson and Felsing.
  • RIT ended the shutout late in the period as Tyler Fukakusa scored his seventh of the season, assisted by Evan Miller.
  • The Tigers outshot RMU 13-10 in the second frame, but RMU went 1-for-2 on the power play.
 
THIRD PERIOD  
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • RMU outshot RIT 38-28, while the Tigers had the edge in faceoffs, winning 32 of 59 draws.
  • George Krotiris led RMU with four shots, while Greg Japchen blocked a team-high four shots.
  • The Colonials went 1-for-2 on the power play and successfully killed off their lone penalty.
  • In net, Croix Kochendorfer earned his sixth career win, making 27 saves.
 
TOP LINE PRODUCTION
RMU's top line combined for one goal and six assists in the victory:
  • Trent Wilson: Scored one goal and added two assists for his second career multipoint effort. He now has five goals, 10 assists, and 15 points in 22 games.
  • Tanner Klimpke: Recorded two assists, marking his 10th career multipoint game. He has 23 goals, 23 assists, and 46 points in 59 career games.
  • Michael Felsing: Also dished out two assists, his third career multipoint effort, bringing his career totals to three goals, 11 assists, and 14 points in 21 games.
 
ADDITIONAL MULTIPOINT EFFORTS
  • McKay Hayes: Scored the game-winning goal and added an assist, his fourth career multipoint game. He now has nine goals, 13 assists, and 22 points in 58 games.
  • Dominic Elliott: Tallied one goal and one assist for his fifth multipoint performance this season. The freshman defenseman has four goals, 10 assists, and 14 points in 22 games.

The Colonials will look to sweep the series against RIT tomorrow night at Clearview Arena, with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 PM.
