Last Second Basket Lifts RMU Men’s Basketball Past Wright State 75-72

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. Amarion Dickerson's alley-oop with 4.8 seconds left and subsequent free throw with 1.1 remaining gave RMU a dramatic 75-72 victory over Wright State on Sunday afternoon. RMU improves to 11-7 (3-4 HL) while WSU falls to (9-9-3-4 HL).
 
1st HALF
Trailing 18-15 at the midway point of the 1st half, RMU went on an 11-1 run to take a 26-19 lead with 6:36 left. Wright State would tie the score at 31-31 with 90 seconds left and take a 34-32 lead with 12 seconds to go before Josh Omojafo's free throws tied the game at 34-34 heading into halftime.
 
2nd HALF
The 2nd half remained a two-possession game the entire 20 minutes with six ties and seven lead changes. Brandon Noel's jumper with 1:12 to go tied the score at 70-70. Kam Woods and Noel would exchange layups to deadlock the game with 24 seconds left. After Dickerson's alley-oop, the Raiders were called for a double-dribble with 1.1 seconds to go. Dickerson missed the first free throw and made the second. The inbounds pass was caught by Noel, but he did not get his shot off before the buzzer sounded.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Five Colonials scored in double-figures led by Alvaro Folgueiras' 16 points
  • Omojafo added 15 points, DJ Smith and Dickerson each had 13 and Ryan Prather Jr added 11
  • Woods had a game-high five assists
  • RMU had 16 fast break points to WSU's four
UP NEXT
RMU hits the road for three straight contests beginning January 17 at Green Bay (2-16, 0-7 HL). The Phoenix have dropped 13 straight games dating back to November 22. They remain in Wisconsin to face Milwaukee on January 19 before heading to Youngstown State on January 22. The Colonials return to the UPMC Events Center for a two-game homestand beginning with Oakland on January 25 and IU Indy on January 30.
