RMU Men's Hockey Set to Host RIT

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. The RMU men's hockey team kicks off a seven-game homestand with a two-game set against RIT at Clearview Arena. The series begins on Friday, January 17, with the second game scheduled for Saturday, January 18. Both games are set for a 7:00 PM puck drop. Fans can watch the action live on FloHockey for both games and on SportsNet Pittsburgh+ for Saturday's contest, with commentary provided by Tim Benz, Mike Prisuta, and Katie Gaus (Saturday).
 
RECENT FORM
RMU (8-10-3, 5-6-2 #AHA) returns home after a challenging road series at Holy Cross. The Colonials dropped the opener 4-1 before battling to a 2-2 tie in the finale. Goals over the weekend came from Luke van Why, Tanner Klimpke, and Braden Rourke, while freshman Trent Wilson delivered two assists and won a career-high 16 faceoffs on Saturday. Freshman defenseman JR Ashmead stood out with a career-best five blocked shots in Friday's game.

SPECIAL TEAMS SUCCESS
RMU's power play unit continues to excel, boasting a 23.9% conversion rate—best in the AHA and 13th in the NCAA. Captain Mitch Deelstra has been instrumental, leading the conference with six power-play goals, which ranks tied for third nationally.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Since 2005, RMU holds a 16-25-6 record against RIT. Nine of the matchups have gone to overtime, with the Colonials averaging 3.00 goals per game in the series. RMU is 10-10-2 at home against the Tigers. Earlier this season, RMU split the series at RIT, claiming a 7-3 victory in the opener before falling 4-3 in overtime in the finale. SCOUTING RIT
RIT (4-17-1, 3-10-1 #AHA) is seeking a rebound after being swept by Canisius in consecutive 5-2 losses. Sophomore forward Tyler Fukakusa currently leads the team in assists (18) and points (24) while sophomore forward Matthew Wilde has a team-high nine goals. On defense, graduate defenseman Dimitri Mikrogiannakis has a team leading 44 blocked shots. In net, the Tigers have mainly started freshman netminder Jakub Krbecek. In 14 appearances, he's won three games while holding a .903 save percentage.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
RMU continues its homestand with a quick turnaround, hosting Canisius on Tuesday, January 21, at 7:00 PM, followed by a two-game set against Army on January 24-25 at Clearview Arena.
