RMU Women's Hockey Drops Series Opener to RIT

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. The RMU women's hockey team fell to RIT, 2-0, in the series opener at Clearview Arena. The Colonials now sit at 7-15-3 overall and 1-8-2 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play.
 
FIRST PERIOD
  • Just five minutes into the game, RIT's Brac Kelley found the back of the net to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead.
  • RMU nearly tied the game midway through the period when Veronica Bac hit the post.
  • RIT led the way in shots on goal through the opening frame, 11-6.
 
SECOND PERIOD
  • A scoreless second period saw both teams fail to convert on the power play, with RMU successfully killing off a 5-on-3 advantage for RIT.
  • The Colonials outshot the Tigers, 12-11, in the middle frame.
 
THIRD PERIOD
  • RIT doubled their lead halfway through the final period when Kailey Favro capitalized on a power play opportunity.
  • RMU pulled goaltender Maggie Hatch with just over two minutes remaining but couldn't close the gap, falling 2-0.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Shots on Goal: RIT outshot RMU 35-22. Madison Primeau and Laura Eustace had a team-high four shots on goal.
  • Faceoffs: The Tigers won 33 of 57 draws. Janelle Evans led the Colonials with 10 faceoff wins.
  • Defense: Shayne Desjardins blocked a team-high five shots.
  • Power Play: RIT went 1-for-4, while RMU finished 0-for-2 with the man advantage.
  • Goaltending: Maggie Hatch made 33 saves in net for RMU.

The Colonials will look to bounce back in the series finale against RIT tomorrow, with puck drop scheduled for 3:00 PM at Clearview Arena.
