RMU Scores Three Unanswered to Come Back and Beat RIT, 5-4 in Overtime

Four Colonials Produce Multipoint Efforts; Hatch Posts 13th Career 40+ Save Performance

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. The RMU women's hockey team staged a thrilling comeback, erasing a two-goal deficit to defeat RIT 5-4 in overtime and split the weekend series. With the victory, the Colonials improve to 8-15-3 overall and 2-8-2 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play.
 
FIRST PERIOD
  • RMU got off to a strong start, scoring just two minutes into the game as Emma Goding netted her third goal of the season, assisted by Morgan Giannone and Jersey Phillips.
  • The Colonials outshot the Tigers 9-8 and successfully killed off a penalty in the opening frame.
 
SECOND PERIOD
  • RIT tied the game just 38 seconds into the second period with an unassisted effort from Linda Rulle.
  • Five minutes later, the Tigers took their first lead of the game, thanks to a goal by Bronwyn Khangsar.
  • The Colonials responded as Catriona Crarer scored off assists from Lindsey Smolen and Shayne Desjardins to even the score at 2-2.
  • Before the period ended, Nicole Ness restored RIT's lead.
  • RIT outshot RMU 21-8 in the middle frame, with RMU going 0-for-1 on the power play.
 
THIRD PERIOD
  • Kyla Bear scored 27 seconds into the final frame to extend RIT's lead to 4-2.
  • The Colonials mounted their comeback starting with Calli Arnold's goal two minutes later, capitalizing on a rebound from a Mya Kearns shot.
  • With three minutes left, RMU pulled their goalie and Morgan Giannone tied the game with a snipe, assisted by Emma Goding and Mya Neugent.
  • The Colonials' defense came up big, killing off two penalties and blocking five shots during one of RIT's power plays.
 
OVERTIME
  • Starting the period shorthanded, RMU killed the penalty and then earned a power play of their own.
  • With 30 seconds left in overtime, Mya Neugent delivered the game-winning goal off a crisp passing sequence from Thalia D'Elia and Catriona Crarer.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • RIT outshot RMU 47-29 and won 55.9% of faceoffs.
  • RMU's power play went 1-for-2, while the penalty kill was perfect, going 4-for-4.
  • Giannone led the team with six shots, while Goding set a career-high with four.
  • Goding and Ashlyn Ham finished with a team-high +2 rating.
  • Mya Kearns blocked a career-high five shots, bringing her series total to nine.
  • In net, Maggie Hatch made 43 saves, marking her 13th career game with 40+ saves.

  • Catriona Crarer: One goal, one assist; fourth career multipoint game (6g, 15a, 21p in 53 games).
  • Mya Neugent: One goal, one assist; eighth career multipoint game (14g, 16a, 30p in 116 games).
  • Emma Goding: One goal, one assist; first career multipoint game (3g, 3a, 6p in 26 games this season).
