ERIE, Pa. – The RMU women's hockey team fell 7-0 to Mercyhurst in the opener of their two-game series. The loss brings the Colonials' overall record to 8-16-3 and 2-9-2 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play.
FIRST PERIOD
- Mercyhurst took early control, scoring two goals in the first seven minutes.
- The Lakers outshot the Colonials 14-5 in the opening frame, while faceoffs were evenly split at 10 each.
SECOND PERIOD
- The Lakers extended their lead with three additional goals in the middle frame, bringing the score to 5-0.
- Penalties played a significant role as RMU committed four infractions and Mercyhurst one. The Lakers capitalized with a power-play goal and a shorthanded tally.
THIRD PERIOD
- Mercyhurst added two more goals in the final period, including another power-play score, to seal a 7-0 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Shots on Goal: Mercyhurst outshot RMU 41-21.
- Faceoffs: Mercyhurst won 35 of 64 draws. Janelle Evans led RMU with eight faceoff wins.
- Blocked Shots: Allyson Hebert, Lindsey Smolen, Mya Kearns, and Shayne Desjardins each recorded three blocks.
- Special Teams: RMU went 0-for-1 on the power play, while Mercyhurst capitalized on 2-of-7 opportunities.
- Goaltending: Maggie Hatch made 24 saves through the first two periods, while Lucy Phillips added 10 saves in the final frame.

RMU will look to bounce back in the series finale tomorrow (Saturday, January 25) against Mercyhurst. Puck drop is set for 1:00 PM at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
