Woods’ Last Second Basket Leads RMU Men’s Basketball Over Youngstown State 72-70

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio Kam Woods' coast-to-coast layup with 2.0 seconds remaining broke a tie and gave RMU (14-7, 6-4 HL) a 72-70 victory over Youngstown State (12-9, 7-4 HL) on Wednesday night at the Beeghly Center. The win is the Colonials' fourth straight victory and fourth straight road win.

1st HALF
With RMU ahead 19-17 at the midway point of the half, YSU used an 8-0 run to take its largest lead of the game at 25-19 at the 7:40 mark. The Penguins would stay ahead until three straight field goals by Alvaro Folgueiras, Amarion Dickerson and a 3-pointer from Ryan Prather Jr. put the Colonials up 35-32. DJ Smith closed out the scoring to give RMU a 40-36 lead heading into halftime.

2nd HALF
RMU carried the momentum over into the second half and Woods' steal and layup at 18:28 gave the Colonials their largest lead of the game at 48-38. RMU would keep it a two-possession game until the midway point when Juwan Maxey's 3-pointer made the score 59-56. Coming out of the under-4 media timeout, a Folgueiras layup put RMU ahead 69-63 but YSU would score seven of the next eight points capped by Ty Harper's tip in with 7.5 seconds left to tie the game at 70-70. Woods took the inbounds pass the length of the court for the game-winner as Nelson's desperation 3-pointer was short.
