MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU men's hockey team fell to Canisius, 4-2, on Tuesday night at Clearview Arena. With the loss, the Colonials drop to 9-14-3 overall and 6-10-2 in Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) play.
FIRST PERIOD
- Canisius struck first midway through the opening period as Grant Porter capitalized on a power play opportunity, putting the Golden Griffins up 1-0.
- Special teams played a key role early, with each team receiving two power-play chances.
- Canisius held the shot advantage, 12-4, while faceoffs were even at 12-12.
SECOND PERIOD
- The Golden Griffins extended their lead with two goals in a three-minute span, pushing the score to 3-0.
- With just over a minute remaining in the period, Walter Zacher provided a spark for RMU, going coast to coast and finishing with a highlight-reel goal. Trent Wilson and Luke van Why recorded assists on the play.
- RMU dominated offensive chances, outshooting Canisius 17-5 in the period and converting one of their three power-play opportunities.
THIRD PERIOD
- The Colonials continued their offensive pressure but couldn't close the gap.
- Canisius secured an insurance goal on the power play with six minutes remaining, extending their lead to 4-1.
- With 14 seconds left, Trevor LeDonne found the back of the net for his third goal of the season. Thomas Haynes and Adam O'Marra earned assists, marking the first career points for both players.
GAME NOTES
- RMU outshot Canisius, 39-23, and won the faceoff battle, 38-33.
- Special teams were a deciding factor, as the Golden Griffins finished 2-for-4 on the power play, while the Colonials went 1-for-5.
- Trent Wilson and Cameron Garvey led RMU with five shots on goal each.
- Patrick Johnson posted a team-high three blocked shots.
- Freshman goaltender Croix Kochendorfer made 19 saves in net.
- Walter Zacher now has three goals and one assist in three games against Canisius this season.

RMU will remain at home for a weekend series against Mercyhurst at Clearview Arena. The two-game set is scheduled for Friday, January 31, and Saturday, February 1, with 7:00 PM puck drops both nights.
