MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's hockey team fell 5-4 in a dramatic overtime loss to Yale in the series finale. The Colonials now hold a 6-14-2 overall record heading into the second half of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Colonials came out strong in the first period, jumping to a 2-0 lead.
Veronica Bac opened the scoring off assists from
Janelle Evans and freshman
Mya Farr, who recorded her first career point. Moments later, on a power play, Evans extended the lead with help from
Morgan Giannone and
Thalia D'Elia.
Yale clawed back in the second period, scoring twice to tie the game 2-2. The Bulldogs controlled the frame with 19 shots compared to RMU's nine.
The third period was a back-and-forth battle. Yale capitalized on a 5-on-3 power play to take their first lead of the game, but RMU quickly responded with Giannone tying it up, assisted by
Jersey Phillips and Bac. With just 22 seconds left, Bac batted in her second goal of the game to put RMU ahead 4-3. However, Yale's Carina DiAntonio found the equalizer with just five seconds remaining, sending the game into overtime.
In the extra period, RMU had the first big chance as Bac broke free on a breakaway but was denied. Yale secured the victory shortly after with Cami Bell scoring her second goal of the night.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Yale outshot RMU 53-27 and held a 46-23 edge in faceoffs. For RMU, Phillips led the team with six shots on goal and nine faceoff wins. Bac, Evans, and
Laura Eustace each posted a team-high +2 rating. The Colonials recorded 30+ blocked shots for the fourth time this season, with D'Elia and captain
Allyson Hebert each blocking five.
MULTIPOINT PERFORMANCES
- Veronica Bac: Scored two goals and an assist, bringing her season total to eight goals and 12 points. This was her third multipoint effort of the season.
- Janelle Evans: Tallied one goal and two assists for her second multipoint game of the year and ninth of her career.
- Morgan Giannone: Contributed one goal and one assist, extending her team-leading totals to 15 points (6g, 9a). This was her fourth multipoint game of the season and ninth of her career.
- Thalia D'Elia: Registered two assists, marking her fourth career multipoint performance.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Sophomore goaltender
Maggie Hatch made 48 saves, marking the eighth time in her career she has recorded 45 or more saves in a game.

The Colonials return to conference play next weekend with a two-game series at Lindenwood, scheduled for January 10-11.
