Big Second Half Leads Cleveland State Past RMU Men’s Basketball

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Cleveland State opened the 2nd half on a 25-7 run in its 80-69 victory over RMU on Wednesday night at the UPMC Events Center. The Vikings (11-6, 5-1 HL) extend its winning streak to seven games while the Colonials fall to 10-7, 2-4 HL.
 
1st HALF
The 1st half saw six ties and 10 lead changes and was a two-possession game for the entire 20 minutes. RMU had a 9-2 run to take a 13-9 lead at 12:57, but Cleveland State countered with a 9-2 run of its own to go ahead 18-15 at 8:39. The half would be tied twice more with each team going ahead twice, the last coming on Kam Woods' 3-pointer that closed out the scoring putting the Colonials ahead 38-37 heading into halftime.
 
2nd HALF
The Vikings started the 2nd half on an 11-2 run to go ahead 48-40 in the first 90 seconds. They would use a 14-0 run to take a commanding 62-45 lead with 7:47 remaining. Their lead would get as high as 20 points at the 6:35 mark.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • CSU scored 27 points off of 20 RMU turnovers
  • The Vikings' Tevin Smith recorded a double- double of 11 points and 10 rebounds
  • Woods led RMU with 18 points, Josh Omojafo added 14
  • Ishmael Plet recorded a season-high 12 points
  • RMU had eight blocks, four coming from Amarion Dickerson, who had a team-high seven rebounds
 
UP NEXT
RMU remains at the UPMC Events Center to host Wright State (8-8, 2-3 HL) on January 12.  The Raiders host Oakland tomorrow night.
