Colonials Breeze Past the Mastodons, Winning 3-0

Trethewey scores a brace; Williams nets her first career goal

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The RMU women's soccer team excelled on both sides of the ball Sunday afternoon, defeating Purdue Fort Wayne, 3-0, to earn a crucial Horizon League victory. The Colonials improve to 4-6-3 overall and 2-2-2 in conference play, while collecting their fourth shutout of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
RMU came out strong, creating several early chances with three shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes.

The breakthrough came in the 25th minute when Malia Kearns found Ava Trethewey about 30 yards from goal. Trethewey turned and unleashed a curling strike that sailed under the crossbar and in, giving RMU a 1-0 advantage.

Purdue Fort Wayne generated a few looks before halftime, outshooting the Colonials 4-3 in the closing stretch of the period, but the score remained 1-0 at the break.

Just 11 minutes into the second half, RMU doubled its lead. Bailey Campbell intercepted the ball at midfield and quickly pushed the ball into open space for Trethewey to run onto. With only the goalkeeper to beat, Trethewey calmly slotted home her second goal of the day to make it 2-0.

The Colonials sealed the win in the 73rd minute after a well-worked build-up from the left side. Taylor Day found Madison Hurst, who delivered a low cross into the box where Alayna Williams finished confidently for her first collegiate goal, extending RMU's lead to 3-0.

The Mastodons pressed late but could not break through as Emma Cameron and the RMU back line held firm. Cameron made six saves to preserve the clean sheet.
