MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Both goals came early as the RMU women's soccer team battled Cleveland State to a 1-1 draw Thursday afternoon at the North Athletic Complex. With the result, the Colonials move to 4-6-4 overall and 2-2-3 in Horizon League play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a fast start on both sides, as each team scored on its first shot of the match. Cleveland State struck first in the fourth minute when Payton Koebbe slipped a pass through to Tanji Sarver, who finished giving the Vikings an early lead.
Just a minute later, RMU quickly responded.
Shauna Gamble played a ball down the right flank to
Paloma Swankler, who delivered a pinpoint cross that found
Ava Trethewey, and she buried a one-touch finish to even the score at 1-1.
For the remainder of the half, RMU carried much of the momentum, outshooting the Vikings 5-1 but unable to break the deadlock.
The second half featured plenty of back-and-forth play, with both sides generating scoring chances and multiple corner opportunities.
In the final 10 minutes, sophomore
Madison Hurst nearly found the winner on two separate occasions, but neither team could capitalize as the match ended in a draw.
