PITTSBURGH – The RMU women's soccer team fell just short on Senior Day, dropping a 3-2 decision to Oakland at Highmark Stadium. The Colonials move to 4-7-4 overall and 2-3-3 in Horizon League play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Oakland came out with early pressure and broke through in the 21st minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Roughly 20 minutes later, the Golden Grizzlies doubled their advantage. After an RMU player went down, play continued, leading to a breakaway goal by Bailey Giddings.
Just before halftime, the Colonials nearly responded as
Madison Hurst's shot rattled off the crossbar.
Eight minutes into the second half, RMU got on the board. Dribbling down the right wing,
Paloma Swankler delivered a perfect pass into the box for
Ava Trethewey, who finished to cut the deficit in half.
Ten minutes later, Oakland regained its two-goal cushion when Kimee Liu scored from distance to make it 3-1.
The Colonials quickly answered. In the 63rd minute,
Ivy Chaskelson sent a free kick into the box that Oakland failed to clear, allowing Trethewey to pounce on the loose ball and net her second of the match, bringing RMU within one.
Despite continued pressure, Oakland tightened defensively down the stretch and held on for the 3-2 victory.

Trethewey recorded her second two-goal game of the season and extended her point streak to four matches. She has now scored in three straight contests, and her eight goals this season are tied for the most in the Horizon League.
