ROCHESTER, Mich. – The RMU men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw at Oakland on Saturday evening. With the result, the Colonials move to 4-2-6 overall and remain unbeaten in Horizon League play at 2-0-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After early chances from
Royie Rahamim and
Fabian Overkamp, Oakland was the first to find the scoresheet.
In the 28th minute, Gabriel Baylon struck from distance for his first goal of the season, giving the Golden Grizzlies a 1-0 advantage.
Oakland continued to press late in the first half, but goalkeeper
Josh Lane stood tall, making three saves in the final eight minutes to keep it a one-goal game.
The Colonials found the equalizer in the 60th minute. Off a long throw-in from
Jaxson Lee, midfielder
Victor Koah rose above the defense and headed home the tying goal.
Play was halted in the 75th minute due to lightning, causing a delay of more than an hour. When action resumed, both sides pushed for the go-ahead goal.
Rahamim and Overkamp each had close-range headers sail just over the bar, while Oakland managed four more shots in the rain—all either off target or stopped by Lane. After a hard-fought 90 minutes (plus delay), the match ended 1-1.
